There exists an area of science devoted to mathematically modeling social history called “Cliodynamics”. Cliodynamics is very serious stuff, if you are Peter Turchin… and if you are living in the US right now.

Peter Turchin of Univ of Connecticut has applied mathematical modeling to the study of why societies rise and fall. His book Ages of Discord discusses the application of cliodynamics to United States history going back 200 years. And the result… we are in the midst of societal stores equivalent in magnitude to those of our civil war. In fact it’s scheduled to be sometime in the 2020s…
